Monizia edulis subsp. santosii

Cenoura da rocha, an endemic subspecies of Porto Santo, in the past its distribution area extended to the islet of Cenouras, and is currently confined to the islet of Cima. This species occurs in rocky crevices and in small patches of soil on north-facing cliffs, being protected from the sun and under the direct influence of wet sea winds from the Northeast. It occurs between 18 and 80 meters in altitude and is protected by the Habitats Directive - Annex II, IV and by the Berne Convention.
